My yearly cancer screening CAT scan at my local VA hospital revealed a suspicious lung nodule. A PET scan showed the nodule to be metabolically active. Within a month, surgery was scheduled. The post-op pathology report stated the nodule was an invasive adenocarcinoma. Luckily the cancer was in the early stages and had not metastasized. All local lymph nodes were negative for cancer.
I had no signs or symptoms. Obviously, the screening probably saved my life.
