(Washington, D.C.) — “On behalf of Vietnam Veterans of America, I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, their families, and the Gold Star families of our fallen from every generation of service — including those currently serving in the conflict in Iran,” said Tom Burke, VVA National President. “As Vietnam veterans, we know better than most that the cost of war is not confined to the battlefield but returns to the homefront and continues for future generations.”
“As a generation of veterans who returned home from Vietnam to division, resentment, and, in too many cases, open hostility, we know firsthand the cost of a nation failing to separate its policy debates from those who serve in uniform. We carry those memories, not with bitterness, but with resolve,” Burke noted. “We ask that our fellow Americans remember to separate the war from the warrior. Our troops deserve our respect, our support, and our unity.”
“We stand firmly in support of our founding principle, ‘Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.’” Our prayers remain with our Gold Star families whose loved ones answered the call to duty and made the ultimate sacrifice. We pray for a full recovery to those who have been wounded. We recognize the courage and commitment of these fallen and wounded service members, of their families, and of all those currently deployed, as they represent the very best of America. Our troops and their families deserve our respect, our support, and our unity.”
