Northeast Virtual VEAC Kicks off Regional Series

As we spring into summer, the Veterans Engagement Office (VEO) has its sights set on reaching transitioning service members and recently separated Veterans who are located in the United States or serving overseas. VEO is hosting four virtual, regional Veterans Engagement Action Centers (VEACs) in the Northeast, Southeast, Continental, and Pacific Districts of the United States.

VEACs are modern concept outreach events that connect participants with VA health care, Veteran disability benefits, memorial information and comprehensive community partner support; we like to think of this as providing customer-centric connections to VA and community service providers who can take action in real-time!

These events track participants throughout the events, from registration to follow-on surveys to ensure exceptional customer experience. We know transitioning into civilian life can be a busy and stressful time as Veterans and family members relocate, start new jobs, and find new balance in their family and personal lives. These virtual events provide a perfect opportunity to get comprehensive VA answers and connections in one short phone call, working with multiple subject matter experts at a time and place most convenient for attendees.

Kicking off in the Northeast

Hosting almost 500 Veterans, family members, survivors and caregivers, 22 VEO staff worked diligently to connect participants to experts, providing nearly 1,100 services throughout the event. While over 30% of participants were recently transitioned, the event was opened to additional participants until we reached capacity. With the passing of the PACT Act, the most significant expansion of benefits and services for toxic-exposed Veterans in more than 30 years, an unprecedented number of Veterans have become eligible for VA services. While they may not be recently transitioned, VA has deployed a robust outreach campaign to reach the generations of toxic-exposed Veterans—and their survivors—to connect them with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserved. We found that 42% of this event’s participants had not yet enrolled in VA health care prior to this call. Almost 50% stated they were interested in PACT Act information and services, which further expand from receiving information about VA disability claims and presumptive conditions to toxic exposure screenings and potential survivor compensation.

As we close out the Northeast event, we look forward to connecting more Veterans, family members, caregivers and survivors with the benefits during this regional series of events. We are excited to host these virtual opportunities and provide a unique opportunity to those serving overseas as they begin their transition journey.
