Exploring Rural VA Communities: Fort Harrison, Montana

At VA, we work to meet all our Veterans where they need us, whether that’s in the big city or—like more than 4.7 million Veterans—in rural communities around the country.

Today, we’re taking a trip out west to celebrate the history of the gold rush that founded Helena, Montana, and the nearby Fort Harrison VA Medical Center.

The facility originally operated as a military fort until the end of World War I, when it was considered for a new purpose in serving Veterans as a hospital. Rebuilding and expansions followed down through the years, leading to the present facility, which shares grounds with the Montana National Guard and a U.S. Army Reserve training facility.

In addition to several positions available in the local Mental Health (Outpatient) Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program, open positions at Fort Harrison VAMC include:

Primary Care Physician

Healthcare Engineer

Registered Nurse

Nurse Practitioner

Housekeeping Aid

Jobs at Fort Harrison VAMC also offer access to the state’s capital, Helena. Built on a history tied to the gold rush, Helena is a welcoming community well positioned for outdoor adventure, and the region promises something for everyone.
